ABSTRACT

Anthropometry is the measurement of shape and form in humans, while kinanthropometry is defined as the quantitative study of size, shape, proportion, composition and maturation in relation to gross motor function (Ross and MarfellJones, 1990). Team sports include such well-known sports as rugby and basketball, but exclude sports in which individual scores may be totaled for a “team” score, e.g. gymnastics. Physique and performance in team sports are both affected by age and maturation, selection process, competitive level, playing position, tactics, and gender (Carter, 1985).
