ABSTRACT

In a number of studies, top athletes in various sports have been measured and ‘characteristic’ physiques have been suggested for different sports. One implication of such studies is that this information might serve as a guideline to early prediction of athletic performance (Bar-Or, 1975). In Great Britain over the past few years standards of women’s hammer competition have risen and distances thrown have generally improved, but there is little known about the anthropometric and physical status of women hammer throwers.
