ABSTRACT
Late in 1945, the stalemate between the United States and Great Britain over what to do about the Jewish refugee problem led President Truman and Prime Minister Attlee to create the joint Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry, whose terms of reference included surveying the refugee problem in Europe and the situation in the Near East.
