ABSTRACT
In Chapters 1 and 2 the process of developing property strategy, assessing needs and objectives and planning space usage are discussed. This planning activity has to continue throughout the period of occupation with a continual reassessment of short-and long-term needs. This chapter focuses on the end of the occupational process, when contractual obligations come to an end, or when there is a need to exit from the premises. Disposals involve much the same principal stages as acquisitions. The first step is to determine needs and objectives and the options available for meeting these. Refer to Chapters 1 and 2 for an explanation of the process of evaluating options using qualitative and quantitative analysis to establish a preferred strategy. Where you have the option to stay in the premises, you normally need to start with a stay-versus-move analysis, before moving on to analysing the relocation options.
