ABSTRACT

The renewal of the Jewish quarter in Hebron at the present time has political implications that underline the conflict between Jews and Arabs on the municipal plane. What is happening is penetration and settlement in a Muslim urban area of a group of extremist Jews with the intention of co-existing. It is an unusual occurrence with respect to Jewish settlements in the occupied territories. Up to now we have seen separate Jewish settlements, distant from Arab localities, while Hebron is the site of an attempt to develop Jewish settlement within an Arab city, for religious, spiritual and ideological reasons.
