ABSTRACT
Anumber of common problemswithmental health strategies are identified which need to be overcome if implementation is to be successful.
Lack of integration with overall health policy
At present, many countries are going through a process of health sector reform, but when the draft documents are examined, hardly any of them make more than a passing mention of mental health. This means that when the ministry finally comes to attend to mental health policy:
1. The policy is likely to be considered in an isolated fashion and will not articulate in an integrated way with physical health policy.
