ABSTRACT
Expo 88 is a world event on the edge of several worlds. In trying to make the city of Brisbane visible to ‘the world’, it has achieved almost total invisibility. While aiming to attain international status, it has managed, through its limited visions and lack of originality, only to reinforce and reproduce the economic, cultural, and political marginality not only of Brisbane but of the Australian nation within a world order.
