ABSTRACT

Designing and implementing an effective system for assuring the quality of student learning is a complex task, which involves virtually every group: the programme team, students, administrators, senior managers, librarians, counsellors and, indeed, any other individuals who have an impact upon the learning and assessment process. The concept of the course life cycle—a self-perpetuating cycle of course development, validation or revalidation, approval and evaluation, leading to further development. The full cycle of course development, validation, review and re-validation is illustrated in the process of course evaluation normally focuses upon three dimensions of the curriculum: quality, accessibility and validity. There will be a need to develop quality frameworks that are much broader in scope than the traditional systems, which have focused upon course approval and review. Business and Technology Education Council has developed a quality framework which grants approved centres substantial control over the validation process.
