ABSTRACT

Within the limits noted above, of external constraint circumscribing the area of choice available, there is the long-standing question: are our choices predetermined or do we have free will? Is our apparently free choice dictated by the deities, by the stars via astrology, or by fate, as in the appointment with death in Samaria (Eilon 1971: ch. 7)? Or can we choose freely within the limits stipulated by constraints? The world largely assumes that we can, as we do here.
