ABSTRACT

The practices of most contemporary glass-painters have not changed substantially from those described in various medieval treatises on the arts: those of Theophilus (early twelfth century), Eraclius (late twelfth-early thirteenth century), Anthony of Pisa and Cennino Cennini (late fourteenth century). 1 As the glazier had to obtain his raw materials before he could begin to exercise his craft, some preliminary remarks should be made on the making of glass.
