ABSTRACT
The practice of narrative has occupied a central position in the history of film and television production; and the study of narrative has come close to similarly dominating the world of theory. A useful point of entry into the study of narrative is to begin by thinking of it as story-telling. The two terms are not synonymous, but they are closely related enough that treating them as near-synonyms is an acceptable first approximation.
