ABSTRACT
Plaz Investigations was a story written-and intended to be read-outside school. For its author, one of its primary aims was to offer a means of access to the world of work, albeit the largely mythologised world of Hollywood. Yet, as we have shown, the story is marked by a tension between the demands of the popular genres on which it draws and the rather different generic requirements of the ‘school story’.
