ABSTRACT
Has reason abandoned the relation between means and ends? Surely not. It is, none the less, tempting to argue that increasingly throughout the twentieth century the self-conscious identification of reason with rationality, and rationality with instrumental efficiency, has been, if not broken, then certainly weakened.
