ABSTRACT
The decomposed subject experiences quite a different world from that of the integrated and rational self. Nature no longer confronts him as a ‘self-enclosed world of bodies’.1 Cosmos and psyche, during the classical period, having been separately and independently constructed from the laws of nature, were thrown together again, giving rise to a series of fragmented and ‘mixed’ images.
