ABSTRACT

This paper describes the composite nature of the research methodology I used to gather data on the sexual harassment of girls in schools.1 Probably as a direct consequence of the particular methodology, the focus of the data changed and instead of my receiving information about incidents of sexual harassment perpetrated by male teachers within a mixed school, incidents of sexual assault and other unwanted sexual attention from men outside the school were presented to me by the girls in my study. However, I shall start at the beginning and describe how I set up the original research process, followed by a description of the actual data collection period in the school, and conclude with some analysis on a revised methodology appropriate for researchers committed to a feministoriented approach.
