ABSTRACT

Twins represent a disproportionate share of prenatal and perinatal mortality. This clearly renders multiple pregnancies highly ‘at risk’. Monochorionic pregnancies are particularly exposed to such dangers (Machin 1993; Adams and Chervenak 1992; Fanaroff and Martin 1992). Furthermore, certain aspects of perinatal pathology are met solely in these pregnancies. Prenatal and perinatal components can and do affect twins for the rest of their lives.
