ABSTRACT

The importance of peer-led intervention is a consistent theme in antibullying programmes and one that makes sense when the social context of bullying is considered. Peers can be positively and effectively involved in tackling bullying behaviour in schools. This can be achieved in a number of ways, through:

• participation in the establishment of a whole-school antibullying policy;

• the development of their own solutions to the problem of bullying;

• the encouragement of positive relationship management and active bystander behaviour;

• the provision of a listening or befriending service for peers who are bullied.
