ABSTRACT
This chapter will:
outline and evaluate different theoretical explanations of ‘new’ social movements
consider the characteristics of environmentalism as a social movement
examine the strategies of political change adopted by environmentalists
contrast the differences between ‘North’ and ‘South’ environmental movements
compare the different priorities and strategies of the British and German green parties in examining the relationship of environmentalism to party politics
describe the aims and evaluate the tactics and effectiveness of a variety of social movement organizations
