ABSTRACT

Sadistic Mika Band was one of the most highly regarded bands in Japanese rock music history. The band's name comes out of a word-play derived from John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band. The Sadistic Mika Band made its formal debut in June 1972. The band members were Kato Kazuhiko on vocals and guitar (formerly of the Folk Crusaders), Kato Mika on vocals, Takanaka Masayoshi on guitar, ōhara Hiroshi on bass and Takahashi Yukihiro on drums (later of Yellow Magic Orchestra). The song 'Cycling Boogie' was released on Japan's first private label, Donuts Records (founded by Kato). After the release of their debut album, Sadistic Mika Band (May 1973), the keyboardist Imai joined the band and they actively began touring.
