ABSTRACT

Twenty years ago there was nothing in the world more hilarious, nothing more naff, than a man wearing baggy khaki shorts that reached to his knees. Seven or so years ago, it was a real head-turner. Now it's delightfully routine, and thus probably on the way out. I don't know for certain that it was a gay man who first saw the stylish potential of long shorts, but I'd be willing to bet on it and on the assumption that it was gay men as a group who turned them into a fashion item.
