ABSTRACT

The trustees have reviewed the fund-raising strategy and return on fundraising costs. Fund-raising costs were £690,000 (2000 – £550,000). The increased investment in fund-raising over the past few years is reflected in increases from donations, gifts and legacies which have increased in total from £7,330,000 in 2000 to £9,480,000 in the year ended 31 March 2001. However, since there is often a timing mismatch between costs and related income, the fund-raising strategy adopts a rolling three year profile. The charity has estimated that approximately £200,000 was expended during the year on activities that have yielded little or no return yet. These activities include new donor acquisition costs and a new legacy campaign. The building appeal is now being wound down.
