ABSTRACT

In today’s world, school systems suffer trauma as well as the students they serve. School shootings, snipers, suicide attempts, terrorist threats, and random acts of aggression on students and faculties create an environment in which educational populations are thrust into danger at unsuspecting moments of the day. As prepared as many systems have become, the unexpected drama that instantly unfolds in today’s schools leaves kids, teachers, and parents shocked and vulnerable. Absorbing the mayhem, integrating it, and focusing on responding to students when teachers and principals are themselves traumatized is indeed a challenging task of our present age.
