ABSTRACT
To be in New York on September 11th was a strangely out-of-time
and out-of-space experience. The World Trade Center so domi-
nated the skyline that millions of New Yorkers could watch first
hand as the towers burned and then crumbled. Ash billowed
through downtown streets and people ran in fear from the build-
ings, or else they ran toward the towers in search of loved ones.
