ABSTRACT

Team Role Interview: Art Director Please introduce yourself, your role, and the game team(s) that you have been a part of. I am Rich Curren. I am currently Creative Director at Nexon America; previously I worked at Electronic Arts Canada, where I was one of two Art Directors on SSX On Tour. How did you get your start in the games industry? How did you come to be a member of the SSX team at EA? I was working as a design director for a studio in Vermont called Jager Di Paola Kemp Design. We were hired by Electronic Arts to do some branding work on one of their games, and as part of that project, I got to travel to EA and meet the team. Little did I know that these people were the core of the SSX team. A few years later, my wife and I were considering a move to Vancouver, so I called the Creative Director I had worked with on the previous branding project to inquire if there might be any opportunities for me at EA in Vancouver. I was just fact-finding, but 2 weeks later I heard from some of the people at EA and they seemed interested in talking to me more seriously. My wife and I ended up traveling out to Vancouver for a family visit shortly thereafter, and I went in to the studio on that trip and met some more people.
