ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how to work with texture, painting, and drawing tools with the three-dimensional (3D) object, and how to apply them to 3D model examples from 3Dvia.com. Associating the texture with the object is related to different types of materials that can affect the object, such as texture of the object itself, the reflection on the object, and the overall environmental effect from outside objects. The different material options extend animators' work with the 3D models in Photoshop and allow animators to create realistic models that mimic natural textures and reflection. The 3D painting concept extends animators' ability by giving them the option to paint directly on the model. The idea behind 3D painting is that when animators paint over the 3D object, they actually paint over the materials applied to the object mesh, which is by default the diffuse texture.
