ABSTRACT

The creation of 3D worlds involves many integrated skills. You have already been trying on the roles of painter, sculptor, lighting director, and animator. Now, it’s time to explore the world of director and cinematographer. We’ve implemented the use of cameras into a great many of our scenes, so in this chapter we’re going to focus on camera specific functions, tools and workflows. Virtual cameras are at the very core of what makes 3D animation different from many other mediums. The ability not only to pan and zoom but also to swing around in three dimensions creates incredible control and results. You can add as many cameras to the scene as you wish and cut between them with a click of a button. This section is not a lesson in cinematography, but a study of the tools that allow you to take control and bring your cinematic visions to life.
