ABSTRACT

Theatergoers in the United States spend more money on motion picture entertainment than they do in any other global territory, and their behavior is leading to a steady increase in the distribution of pictures the world over. This chapter specifically reviews who the U.S. theatrical distributors are and how they function. It covers both the major studios (the “majors”) and the independents. Though this chapter specifically highlights U.S. distributors and distribution, much of the relationship approaches and distribution methods set forth are readily applicable to most major international territory distributors.
