ABSTRACT

Greenscreen and keying adds versatility and endless options to a production. There are lots of tools out there to help pull a key but the technique is generally the same for greenscreen or bluescreen. This chapter focuses some of these techniques such as, Red Giant Primatte Keyer, Boris Continuum Chroma Key, Digital Film Tools zMatte, and The Foundry Keylight. The Foundry’s Keylight, an industry-leading keyer for After Effects, ships with and is installed with the nondemo version of After Effects. Keylight is a robust keyer that, simply put, does a better job than the other keyers that ship with After Effects. Red Giant Primatte Keyer is created for designers, with more of a visual interface than just the usual sliders and dials. Unlike other keying effects, the user clicks and drags over the footage to select the matte foreground and background. Digital Film Tools promotes zMatte as a tool with a proprietary matte extraction technology.
