ABSTRACT

The color grading is most often used when referring to color correction using specialized equipment such as Blackmagic Designs’ DaVinci at a postproduction house. This chapter focuses on an interview with Eric Escobar, a man considered an expert in color grading. It discusses the 3-way color correctors for After Effects. The chapter examines one of the plug-ins, Red Giant Magic Bullet Looks, useful for creating a “look” for people's footage. It then examines few color effects such as bleach bypass and day for night, and focuses on working with skin tones and fixing problems related to skin. A 3-way color corrector has three wheels, which adjust the hue, saturation, and luminance of the shadows, midtones, and highlights. Red Giant Magic Bullet Looks is the perfect tool for unifying the appearance of multiple clips, especially if they came from different sources. It’s also a terrific tool for matching foreground and background plates when compositing greenscreen footage.
