ABSTRACT

There are so many effects filters for After Effects, this chapter examines some interesting effects. Blur is simply an area that is not in focus or is outside the depth of field. Blurs can, of course, be done in camera, but the chapter discusses blurs that can be done in postproduction. Gaussian Blurs, Fast Blurs, and Box Blurs are the most commonly used blurs in After Effects. Smallgantics is a term used in film production where the filmmaker will use an extreme depth of field to miniaturize the video. Smallgantics is more commonly referred to as tilt-shift photography. Applying some motion blur in a compositing program like After Effects is a render-saving advantage. Bokeh is a special kind of defocus where the lens creates circles in the out-of-focus area. Cycore FX CC Vector Blur falls more into the distortions category. Instead of just defocusing, it uses maps to define a vector field along which the blur will take place.
