ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with adding movement to a still photo by adding natural effects. A most realistic solution for generating truly realistic water and waves in After Effects is Red Giant Psunami, an outstandingly powerful plug-in. Caustics allows filmmaker to generate water movement. There is a built-in Caustics plug-in in After Effects, but Boris Continuum BCC Caustics is more robust and has a lot more options. Digieffects Delirium Rainfall is a robust plug-in with a splash mode, so that rain can bounce off of a surface. There are many ways to generate clouds in After Effects with Fractal Noise and Turbulent Noise, but if filmmaker want something specifically made to make clouds with more options than the freebies, there are a few third-party options available. Fire can be built with After Effects’ Turbulent Noise or Fractal Noise, but there are some third-party plug-ins made specifically for fire, so there is less tweaking and masking.
