ABSTRACT
The invention of photography is based on the fact that silver salts are sensitive to light. However, other metal salts are also light-sensitive and usable for photographic purposes. One of the first to experiment with other metal salts was Sir John Herschel, and in 1842, he published his account on the cyanotype process, which is based on ferric salts.
