ABSTRACT
Print contrast is the optical density difference between the highlights and the shadows of a photographic print. In other words, the brighter the highlights and the darker the shadows, the higher the overall print contrast. Since highlight density is most effectively controlled through print exposure, shadow density is best controlled by adjusting print contrast. To make this effort possible, most photographic papers are manufactured in various grades of paper contrast.
