ABSTRACT

Tom Koester has been a fan of 3D since the 1950s, when he first saw Bwana Devil and almost all of the 3D movies that ever played in Wichita, Kansas. He was 11 years old. A revelation came to him when he saw his first 3D comic book, “Fearless Fosdick,” a Dick Tracy parody. This comic book was also his first encounter with an anaglyph image. Just by looking at the images, he figured out how it worked, got his crayons, and drew his first 3D picture—a volcano with clouds in the background and trees in the foreground. He even remembers that he had some difficulty making the body and mouth of the volcano round in 3D.
