ABSTRACT

One of the most difficult things to gain experience with in visual effects is the big picture — how a VFX shot is conceived, produced, evolved, and finished. In this chapter we will look at the life cycle of a single VFX shot from start to finish, shot WA-14 from the fantasy 35mm short Dorme, written, produced, and directed by Sylvia Binsfeld. This short film won a great many awards on the film festival circuit for its creativity, beauty, and, of course, special effects. Your humble author also won a Telly award for the VFX compositing of this film.
