Many of you are asking: “What is ReWire?” ReWire is cross-application protocol designed by Propellerhead Software Company that allows specific software to communicate and transfer both MIDI and audio between them in real-time. In essence, ReWire streams real-time synchronized MIDI and audio signals between multiple Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) and links their transports (play/stop), playback location pointing, and track naming information. With ReWire, Live can harness the power of other music software applications, integrating their unique synths and sequencers into your workflow. What does this mean? It means that you can use multiple music programs simultaneously in sync with Live, controlling their instruments and audio outputs while applying Live effects and everything Live has to offer to these audio signals that are all routed through your Live Set. Wow, that’s a lot of stuff, not to mention all of the MIDI flowing back and forth.
