Put on your 3D glasses and look at this grid. The grid appears behind the window. But only the vertical lines in this grid are providing that depth information to your eyes.
Here is the grid with the vertical lines removed. With or without your 3D glasses, there isn’t any depth because horizontals are of no use to your vision system in providing depth information.
