ABSTRACT
This chapter helps the illusionist to get the foundation they need to understand this book, no matter their skill level. It provides the illusionist a brief overview of all of the exciting things that have been added in this edition of the book. There also may be some tips and tricks in this chapter that can help illusionist as they begin to dig a little deeper into the world of effects. Effects have a wide range of functions. We can use them to create remarkable patterns that can captivate an audience, or that simulate real world stuff like fire or water. There are two ways to apply effects—from the Effect menu at the top of the interface, or from the Effects & Presets panel. The Effects & Presets panel can also display effect presets that ship with After Effects, or that are stored in the same folder as the stock presets.
