ABSTRACT

Vegas Pro supports the RED and RED EPIC camera file format natively and does so with a rather unusual grace. Even on a mid-level laptop with some optimizations to the computer system, RED files can be edited directly off the RED Compact Flash cards, RED drive, or transferred files on a hard drive while maintaining a full-frame-rate playback. Setting the Vegas Preview window to Draft/Auto will provide full frame-rate playback on most systems while still providing quality resolution for editing. Few users will have a 4K resolution monitor capable of displaying the raw media. Most users will require a downconvert to 2K, which Vegas will properly manage on its own. Vegas Pro makes this a much smaller issue that it supports higher resolutions. A major benefit to the 4K resolution option is that in doing the “Ken Burns effect” on still images, the photo can be zoomed more deeply while maintaining great detail.
