ABSTRACT

A major part of the experience of watching a live performance at a concert, theater, or opera is about the tangible nature in which the performers can connect with an audience. Two-dimensional recordings of such shows have struggled to recreate that feeling but filmmakers have begun to show that by translating the space of the stage into a “virtual” space for a cinema or TV audience, something akin to being there can be achieved. The best attempts are far removed from any traditional idea of “filmed theatre.”
