Before You Even Take a Shot, Consider the Following:
What do you intend to do with your shots?
Who is your audience?
Do you want to get your images published?
Do you want your shots enlarged or exhibited?
How should the image by composed?
Should it be highly detailed or abstract?
Should the focus on the image be on the color, the shape, or the texture?
What would it look like in black and white?
What should the relationship be between the subject and the background?
How relevant is the background? Does it overpower the main subject?
Are there any unattractive shadows dominating the picture?
What other angles should I shoot it from?
