ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the components of the U.S. transportation system, framed the-matically around the idea of risk management (as opposed to risk elimination). Particular attention is paid to the aviation sector and U.S. government efforts, such as those by the Transportation Security Administration, to secure and protect the aviation sector after 9/11. Maritime security and efforts to secure the global supply chain are also discussed. Sidebars on Trusted Traveler Programs and efforts to overcome contemporary security incidents are also included.
