ABSTRACT

Senior leaders are responsible for making big decisions and relying on their direct reports to put plans into actions and carry them out. If students were to ask any organization what key things are needed to be successful at Lean/continuous improvement, it’s likely that each would say top leadership support and a good support structure. Take a moment to reflect on all the leaders students have had in they career. A person’s behavior is not always reflective of their leader, but behaviors of a group can be a strong indication of either positive or negative leader modeling. In addition, a leader’s behavior can also reflect the behaviors of their senior leader’s which can also be positive or negative. Include training on change management and refreshers on other supervisory skills such as coaching or situational leadership. Standardizing leadership activities is referred to as leader standard work (LSW). LSW helps establish baseline expectations for activities that help drive continuous improvement.
