ABSTRACT

Generally, change adoption by employees across organizations follows a natural bell curve. Innovators and early adopters make up 16% of employees, followed by 37% having early majority buy-in, then 37% late majority buy-in, while 16% of employees outright resist change or try to sabotage it. Care needs to be taken on how to introduce Lean initiatives to all faculty and staff. If the first communication is through a mass email, then it should include the what, why, how, and when, as well as scheduled times and opportunities to ask questions. If the institution is large, one can choose to roll out the initiatives one campus, department, or area at a time. Creating various opportunities for people to learn, ask questions, know what’s expected, and even get involved can shift the bell curve in one's favor.
