ABSTRACT

The conclusion presents a concise summary of the book’s central arguments, underscoring the Cold War as a period in which art was made to articulate particular positions while simultaneously obscuring its political agendas. It highlights the stakes of the book’s argument for global modernism. Considering the current cuts to the US State Department and a deference to cultural diplomacy, alongside a growing radicalism in the Middle East, the historical context of the Cold War and the decades preceding the outbreak of the devastating Lebanese Civil War (1975–90), the book concludes by offering the contemporary moment valuable lessons in the possibilities of exchange within the movement of people, ideas, and artistic languages.
