ABSTRACT

The conclusion recaps the author’s journey through life in the form of a return to the Florida Keys to “find” something there that was missing. In the process of traveling to her island in the sun, that which was not known emerged, i.e., the other side of the eye of a hurricane came to life as a metaphor for the experience one has when he or she is the recipient of projective identification.

Other discoveries that are highlighted include a new definition that emerges as one revises himself or herself through the process of editing old narratives. Termed “redactional identification,” this new aspect of the self includes a new way of navigating in life brought about with the help of another person. It includes incorporating intention into one’s life, which reduces or eliminates directionless motion and drifting, replacing it with a new way of participating in one’s life.
