ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 details the principles that underpin CBT-T, explaining how to deliver the therapy effectively. Clinical examples are provided to show how to ensure that clinicians and supervisors are aware of how to implement the therapy. The chapter details: how to use the CBT-T checklist; the need for a focus on behaviour change; how to engage the patient in early change; the need to monitor progress as well as outcomes; ensuring that the patient takes responsibility for change; the importance of food and weight; and linking treatment targets to the goals of recovery and preventing relapse. It identifies the two cognitive patterns that are addressed in CBT-T.
