ABSTRACT

Part II: Topologies develops the topological themes introduced in Chapter 2, by departing from the historical analysis of mapping to focus more specifically on the theoretical underpinnings of poetic cartography and carto-aesthetics. Chapter 3 focuses on key concepts that set the framework for the contemporary discourse around art, cartography, and the socio-political crisis related to borders, globalization, and migration. Specifically, it will present the different ways in which the concept of mapping “infiltrates” the artwork or artworlds to constitute new aesthetic paradigms.
