ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates existing programming frameworks and models for Early Childhood Development (ECD). It investigates the adaptation and implementation of one ECD model for South Sudanese refugees in Uganda. It details, based on qualitative research, what aspects of the model were easy to implement and which were not. Further, it delves deeply into how a development model can be adapted, and what needs to be considered during adaptation. It illuminates, for programme staff, policy makers and donors, what may need to be changed for evidence-based ECD models to work well in humanitarian situations. The chapter ends with programme guidance for future ECD in emergencies programme design and implementation.
