ABSTRACT

This chapter surveys the crisis in Ukraine in 2022 and its implications for Europe and the world. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has upended international affairs. What factors appeared to motivate Russian decision-makers, mainly, President Vladimir Putin, to launch this war? In addition, this chapter explores the various ways that the crisis is influencing Big3 interrelationships. Finally, this chapter considers several “possible futures” or outcomes for this conflict and implications for the strategic triangle and beyond.
